Land Reuse

BHE Environmental's Land Reuse Group is a unique combination of professionals focused on the assessment, remediation, and reuse of underutilized commercial and industrial properties. Termed "brownfields" by many government programs, these properties range from large former manufacturing plants covering several acres impacting multiple environmental media, to small abandoned corner gas stations having past releases from a single underground storage tank. The common thread for all these sites is that property transfer (divestiture/acquisition) and productive reuse is stalled by environmental concerns and potential environmental liability.

The Land Reuse Group addresses these concerns by drawing from and coordinating with several service areas within and outside BHE Environmental to develop and implement strategies of property reuse. The conditions of a property are investigated using state-of-the-art surface and subsurface drilling and sampling techniques. Risk evaluation is conducted by PhD-level risk assessors and experienced remedial engineers use innovative and cost-effective technologies to address impacted media (soil, groundwater, surface water, or air.) During the clean-up process, the Land Reuse Group coordinates with experienced brownfield developers to strategize the best build-out and reuse of the property given the distribution and type of residual contamination. The final product is a development-ready parcel that is absent environmental concerns.
